The Fusion of Tradition and Technology
World Taekwondo is doubling down on its roots while refining the technology used to safeguard international results. The new 2028 protocols address both the spirit of the dojang and the precision of the scoreboard.
Restoring Etiquette
The return to rigid 'Cha-ryeot' (Attention) and 'Kyeong-rye' (Bow) protocols is now mandatory before and after every round. Failure to adhere strictly to traditional bowing etiquette will result in 1st-degree warnings, reinforcing the martial in martial arts.
The 'Technical Card' System
Introducing the Technical Card appeal system. Coaches can now appeal for system malfunctions or referee oversight at any time, but with a high-stakes twist: an incorrect appeal results in an immediate Gam-jeom for the athlete. This reduces "strategic delays" used by coaches to catch their fighter's breath.
"We want to reduce subjectivity. The Technical Card puts the power back into the facts, not the feelings." - Philippe Bouedo, WT Technical Chair.
